Downer (NZ) Limited, Soletanche Bachy International (NZ) Limited (“SBI”) and HEB Construction Limited have formed a unincorporated joint venture called “The Downtown JV” for the delivery of the Downtown Infrastructure Development Programme. Ward Chandler were contracted by the JV to deliver electrical works for the project ferry basin development project.

Ward Chandler’s portion of works has two separate scopes of to supply & install electrical works including street lighting, CCTV cameras, cable trays and power supply and other associated works. The first stage scope is the Ferry Berths. Each berth is a floating pontoon – Ward Chandler has completed the infrastructure power under the existing wharf. The project has a very large scaffolding area under the wharf which the team has to take into account tide movements and low working heights when working. Stage 2 will follow soon being the upgrade of the public wharf areas.

• Power/data reticulation.
• Submain cabling
• MSB upgrade.
• Distribution boards.
• Small power for signage, fare paying devices, help points etc
• Sullage pumps
• Pole lighting
• Gangway lighting
• Handrail lighting

Downtown Public Spaces Scope:

• Power/data reticulation
• Event power distribution
• Pole lighting
• Handrail/balustrade lighting

As a locally-based contractor, the team were well placed to deliver work on site and have worked closely with the JV contractors to deliver electrical works on time and to budget.
